News is a public good and it should reach everyone. We make journalism more accessible for audiences and more open for the journalists who create it.
News is a public good. But it's not reaching everyone. We work to make news accessible to people who face barriers because of disabilities, alternative communication methods, different ways of accessing the internet, or low literacy levels.
We also work to open the journalism industry to reporters who find themselves left out because of disability, chronic illness, military service injuries, or caregiving responsibilities.
OAJ continues to raise funds to support our projects and expand accessibility in the field of journalism and in news for the audiences it serves.
OAJ provides accessibility training and support with the help of trusted accessibility partners for newsrooms, journalism organizations, and others who want to start their accessibility journey. Learn more
OAJ not only grew my perspective as an editor on what "accessibility" actually means for news organizations, but after working with them, my publication now has the tools, awareness, and energy needed to make our storytelling more inclusive.
